School students from the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh recently made a trip down south to interact with higher secondary school students from Kerala as a part of the student exchange programme organised by the 'Samagra Shiksha Kerala'(SSK) at the cultural exchange program held at SCMS COCHIN.
The students from Himachal, who were on a tour to Kerala as part of the paired state scheme under the Azadi Ka Amrit Amahotsav and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, visited Rasa Gurukul, a riverside retreat on the banks of river Chalakudy in Thrissur district and learnt to make the popular South Indian stew ‘Sambar’.
The retreat aimed to provide the students with an opportunity to experience the different aspects of a traditional Kerala lifestyle, especially cooking, farming and gardening. The students also made a visit to Chendamangalam, a village renowned for its handloom fabrics, and also the Cherai beach.
