Sourav Ganguly feels that former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting can be a great candidate to become Indian national coach. Ponting has worked well with Delhi Capitals in IPL 2019, sending them to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Delhi, often considered as a weak team in IPL tournaments, impressed everyone with the young talent they have.
The credit can be given to Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting, who showed confidence in the team and guided them to victories. Ganguly, who is DC’s advisor feels that Ponting can also be capable of coaching the national team. “But yes, if you talk about credentials, there is no doubt he can be a great candidate,” Ganguly told Cricbuzz. After facing some up and downs at the start, the Shreyas Iyer-led team has qualified for playoffs along with Chennai Super Kings. DC has won 8 out of 13 games, which puts them on the second position on points table with 16 points.
Talking about his friendship with his old cricket rival Ponting, Ganguly said, “Oh we are great friends. There was a point in time when we were adversaries on the pitch, but over the years our friendship has grown. He has done some great work with the boys and it’s showing”.
