Mumbai: Swami Vivekanand (Borivali) boys produced a clinical all-round display to beat defending champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) by 21 runs to win the Khar Gymkhana- B.Khichadia Under-16 Suburban schools cricket tournament. In the match that was being played at Khar Gymkhana, the former champions Swami Vivekanand, regained the trophy after three years.

Skipper Ayush Jethwa called the coin right and opted to take strike. However, he couldn’t make his willow do the talking as he fell cheaply. Angkrish Raguvanchi (73) and Sourabh Singh (67) made amends and went along well after openers Atharav Desphande (40) and Ishaan Roy (43) ensured that they hit up a fighting total of 263 for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 45 overs.

For Rizvi, medium pacer Moin Khan (5/66) and Inaam Qureshi (3/50) excelled. Chasing 264, Rizvi openers Prince Singh (32) and Abhinav Singh (35) did well to put on 67 runs before they were separated.  Thereafter, Mayank Tiotya, who had scored century in the semifinals, did well to score 32, while Mohit Tanwar going for big hits fell in the deep for 48. But the lower order batsmen failed against the pace and spin combination of Karan Patole (2/30) and Ayush (3/81), as Rizvi were bowled out for 242 in 43.4 overs.

Brief scores : Swami Vivekanand (Borivli) 263/8 off 45 overs ( A Deshpande 40, I Roy 43; M Khan 5/66, I Qureshi 3/50) bt Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) 242 all out ( P Singh 32, A Singh 35; A Jethwa 3/81, K Patole 2/30) by 21 runs.
