Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Damian Martin, Darren Lehman, Andrew Symonds, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, David Warner… well the list could be really very long. But, while going through these names what thought comes to your mind? If you think you were reading the names of some great Australian cricketers, then you are wrong. Agreed all of them played cricket, but they were a bunch of chokers who neither had faith in their abilities nor had the courage to fight it out and win a game of cricket.

Don’t believe? Then you better consult an Australian cricketer of this age, Mitchell Starc.

He has said that when there is a fear to lose, cricketers use the option of verbal volleying. He has said it in the context of Team India. But if he is correct with whatever he has said, the same truth should prevail with all the above mentioned cricketing greats from Australia. So, we are sorry Mr. Taylor to Mr. Warne… You were not great cricketers. You all were just cowards, who were afraid to lose a game and hence came the sledging.

It is an open secret that Australian cricketers are champions of sledging. Whenever they found a tough opponent, they tried to unnerve him. They didn’t mind to do everything which was permissible in the laws that were in the effect. Who can forget the extra aggression Warne or McGrath used to show while bowling to Sachin Tendulkar? Who can forget the lbw appeal made against Sachin when a bowl didn’t bounced and hit him on the shoulder as he was trying to duck it? Australian cricketers always tried to upset great batsmen who had the potential to post a threat to their bowlers. VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Sehwag… there are many examples. During Sourav Ganguli’s leadership aggressive players like Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh started to give it back to the Australians on this front too. Today’s Team India under the leadership of the very aggressive Virat Kohli has gone many steps further and given the same bitter medicine to Oz’s in aplomb and clearly the dose is proving a bit of too much for them to digest.

At the end of the day you win or lose as per your skill and not with just those tactics. Let’s hope an international cricketer like you know this very well Mr. Starc!
