Johannesburg: Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris has insisted that he is fit for the upcoming Ashes series while saying that he is competing to secure a Test spot in the team’s much-vaunted bowling attack in order to defend the title at Cardiff on July 8. The 35-year-old fast bowler, who has battled a succession of knee injuries in his international career, was the Australia’s leading wicket-taker during England’s 3-0 series win in the 2013 Ashes series. Earlier, coach Darren Lehmann had said that Harris was ‘short of a gallop’, referring to his declining pace.

Although the bowler has conceded the former’s evaluation, Harris expressed that his body feels really good and despite having had soreness in knees he was bowling quite well. Reflecting on his performance during the Australia’s first Ashes warmup against Kent, Harris opined that it was very satisfying to grab a couple of wickets and some rhythm. Harris also said that he wants to play all the five Tests and, therefore, he is aiming to put a better show during warmup games so as to make it hard for the selectors to pick a bowling group for the first Test, Sport24 reported. The veteran paceman bids to return to the squad after he was omitted from the victorious World Cup squad followed by missing the Caribbean tour.
