Virat Kohli smashed his 39th ODI ton and 64th in international cricket on Tuesday. Along with it, the Indian captain achieved a unique batting ‘hat-trick’. Confused? Well, it has to do with the date January 15. Kohli has smashed a ton on January 15 in the last three years. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, Kohli lifted his bat after smashing a century on this very same date even as the grounds and opposition kept changing.
In 2017, Kohli smashed a century against England on January 15 in the first ODI at Pune. Kohli knocked 122 off 105 balls as India chased down the target of 351 runs set by England. In 2018, Kohli hit a century on the very same date against South Africa at Centurion. Kohli reached his 100 on the third day (Jan 15, 2018) of the second Test against South Africa. The match ended in victory for South African by 135 runs as Indian batsmen failed to perform better in the second innings.
In 2019, Kohli continued with his January 15 luck after hitting a century against Australia at Adelaide. Kohli scored 104 runs off 112 balls. It seems like Kohli has some great connection with his date which can be called quite a lucky day for the Indian skipper.
