Johannesburg : South African swashbuckling skipper AB de Villiers has pointed out that a lack of partnership during crunch situations led to his team’s 29-run loss to Pakistan at Eden Park on Saturday. Despite starting on a promising note, South African batsmen wilted under pressure as they kept losing wickets at regular juncture to bundle out for 202 while chasing a revised target of 232. Reflecting on the team’s performance, De Villiers said that it was a disappointing loss and they didn’t get enough partnership during the pressure situations, adding that they had done it in the past but unfortunately couldn’t replicate the same, Sport24 reported.

De Villiers waged a lone battle as he top-scored with a 58 ball 77 runs but failed to convert it into winning runs.  The skipper further said that he couldn’t win the World Cup alone, and he need his teammates to do that, adding that it was a matter of time of pulling together as a side and moving forward as a unit. South Africa are second in Pool B table with six points and will next meet the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Wellington on March 12.
