Australian batsman Adam Voges was struck by a bouncer on his head and suffered concussion during a Sheffield Shield first class match between Western Australia and Tasmania at the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) ground here on Thursday. After the blow he was ruled out of the rest of the four-day match, according to the Cricket Australia’s (CA) website.

Voges was batting on 16 when he was struck by a bouncer from fast bowler Cameron Stevenson on the opening day of the match.

“Voges has been diagnosed with concussion. He is ok, naturally a bit groggy. Being monitored by medicos. Ruled out of rest of game,” the Western Australian Cricket Association tweeted.

The incident follows the death of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes, who died in November 2014 after being hit by a bouncer during a domestic match in Sydney.

The inquest ruled that Hughes made a “misjudgement” due to which he was fatally struck. His tragic death wasn’t because of the bowler or due to the employment of the tactic of bowling short-pitched deliveries by the opposing team.

It is the second time in the year that Voges has suffered concussion. He was struck on the head by a fielder’s throw while playing for the English county Middlesex in May. IANS
