Vizianagaram : Middle-order batsman Ricky Bhui completed his century as Andhra Pradesh reached 213 for four in their first innings against Mumbai on a rain-curtailed second day of the Ranji Trophy Group B match here on Friday. On a day when only 26 overs could be played, Andhra added another 43 runs losing two wickets to their overnight score of 170-2 at Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex here on Friday.  Overnight batsmen Bhui (103) and Mohammad Kaif (89) added another 21 runs today before the former was dismissed by Balwinder Sandhu in the 92nd over.  AG Pradeep (0) also was sent packing by Sandhu in the 94th over after he disturbed his stumps.  At the draw of stumps, Kaif and No. 6 batsman K Ashwin Hebbar (8) were at the crease. Brief Score:  Andra 1st innings: 213 for 4 in 106 overs (R Bhui 103, M Kaif 89; BS Sandhu 3/45).

Bhatt’s six-wicket haul: Left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt scalped six wickets on a turning wicket as Baroda placed themselves on course for a comfortable victory against hosts Tamil Nadu in their Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match in Chennai on Friday. Bhatt’s brilliant figures of 6/58 helped Baroda shot Tamil Nadu out for 155 in 59.4 overs in their second innings, leaving the visiting side 122 runs to score in their second innings to win the match at the M A Chidambaram Stadium. Bhatt has taken 10 wickets in total in the match as he had scalped four in Tamil Nadu first innings.

At stumps, Baroda were four for no loss from two overs, needing another 117 runs to win the match with all their second innings wicket in hand.

Gambhir, Unmukt shine: Skipper Gautam Gambhir in company of his deputy Unmukt Chand got into a damage control mode with fighting half-centuries as Delhi put up a much improved performance on the second day of their Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan taking their overall lead to 74 runs. After being skittled out for 138 on the opening day, the Delhi bowlers did a decent job to restrict Rajasthan to 240 keeping the first innings lead to 102. Delhi gave a better account of themselves finishing the day at 176 for one. Skipper Gambhir took charge in the second essay with a fighting unbeaten 77 and added 166 for the opening stand with Unmukt who struck 84.

Jadeja sizzles: Ravindra Jadeja snared up six wickets as Saurashtra dismissed Tripura for 103 to enforce a follow on at stumps on day two of the Group C match in the Ranji Trophy in Rajkot on Friday. Tripura were struggling in their second innings too, ending the day at 11 for three with Jadeja picking up two wickets to take his match haul to eight. Jadeja, out of the Indian team, was menacing with his left-arm spin after scoring a solid 91 on day one. Saurashtra, resuming the day at 270 for six, added 47 runs to their first innings total to post 307. Sheldon Jackson, who was batting on 82 overnight, was dismissed by Tushar Saha three runs short of a hundred.

Gurkeerat’s double ton: High on confidence after his maiden call-up to the Indian ODI team, young Gurkeerat Singh Mann smashed his way to an unbeaten double hundred on a single day as Punjab piled up a mammoth 604 for five against Railways before declaring their first innings. Such was Gurekeerat’s dominance during his 205-ball-201 that Punjab scored 339 runs on the single day. Gurkeerat hit 25 fours and five sixes in his innings and added 306 runs with wicketkeeper-batsman Gitansh Khera (102) with nine fours and a six. The only unfortunate player to miss out was skipper Yuvraj Singh (23), who offered a simple return catch to Karn Sharma (1/115).                       —PTI
