Karachi: Batting great Zaheer Abbas today joined the chorus of former cricketers who have demanded the stepping down of head coach Waqar Younis after the humiliating defeats of the national team in Bangladesh in the ODIs and T20 International matches. “There is no doubt that Waqar was a great cricketer but as a coach he has failed to deliver the goods and he should be replaced,” Abbas said. Abbas, who was known as the Asian Bradman for his run-scoring feats, himself was last year attached with the national team as consultant but he was asked to step down after Pakistan’s failure to qualify for the World T20 semifinals in Bangladesh. “I have never seen since a spineless performance from the national team in my life. Losing is part of life but the way we played it just did not appear this was the Pakistan team playing against Bangladesh,” he said.
