World Refugee Day was celebrated at VIT-AP School of Law. The event organized on Monday,21stJune 2021 jointly the VIT-AP School of Law, VIT-AP University, Andhra Pradesh, Centre for Statelessness and Refugee Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai along with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, India
The event is organised to remind us towards the protection of refugees and statelessness. Globally refugee crisis is on the rise due to protracted conflicts and violations of human rights leading to enormous displacement and forced migration scenario.
The Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) has following broad four objectives: (i) ease pressures on host countries; (ii) enhance refugee self-reliance; (iii) expand access to third country solutions; and (iv) support conditions in countries of origin for return in safety and dignity, with relevant indicators framework. Are the objectives specified in GCR, recast of earlier durable solutions? Or do they have new meaning in text and context is to be discussed in the proposed National Webinar on 21 June 2021 as part of World Refugee day celebrations. How India has adopted GCR in its law and policies vis-à-vis notions of protection, inclusion and care and how it addresses the WRD theme 'Together We Heal, Learn and Shine'.
