Tanuja Kansal, President, Central Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (CRWWO) felicitated Mayur Shelke, Pointsman working at Vangani railway station for his exemplary courage. Recently, Mayur Shelke saved the life of a six-year-old boy at the Vangani station. The boy was slipped off and fell on the tracks coming in the way of speeding Udyan Express special.

Kansal while felicitating Shelke said that ‘No words will be enough to congratulate for his brave act of putting his own life at stake’. She also interacted with him and gave a cash award of Rs.2,000/- as a token of appreciation from CRWWO. When Kansal asked what were his first thoughts, Shelke replied that , there was no chance the boy would have lived had I not intervened. I ran fast for 100 meters on tracks and picked the boy and climbed on to the platform just before the train passed by. I was determined to save him. Shelke told Kansal that the Indian Railways has given him so much and what he did was his duty.
