Suresh Angadi, MoSR inaugurates SWR’s Lifts at Shivamogga Rly station, newly added passenger amenities at Arasalu Station and dedicates 'Museum Malgudi' to the nation

In the first e-inaugural function on South Western Railway, Suresh Angadi, Minster of State for Railways inaugurated two Lifts at Shivamogga Railway station and newly added passenger amenities at Arasalu station. He also dedicated ‘Museum Malgudi’ – the restored old station building Arasalu to the nation. Function was presided over by B.Y. Raghavendra, Member of Lok Sabha, Shivamogga, A.K.Singh, General Manager South Western Railway, Aparna Garg Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru, other public representatives and senior officials of Railways were also present. Welcoming the dignitaries Aparna Garg, Divisional Railway Manager said the division takes pride in announcing the completion of 2.5 crore worth passenger amenity works in Shivamogga constituency.

Considering the growing importance of Shivamogga Town from the point of view of passenger footfall of over 11500 passengers. 2 heavy-duty passenger lifts connecting platform 1 and the island platform 2/3 have been provided, She said the work proposed in September 2019 at an outlay of Rs.1.05 Crores, has been executed in a record time despite many hurdles on account of COVID-19 pandemic, the facility will greatly benefit senior citizen and Divyangjan.

While addressing she also apprised about the renovation of old station building at Arasalu to the theme of ‘Malgudi’ as a tribute to the makers of the popular television serial ‘Malgudi Days’ as the station features predominantly in the episodes. The approach road and station area wears a new transformed look. The innovative idea of having a tea-shop in a Narrow Gauge coach stabled at Arasalu station adds warm charm to the green surroundings.

A slew of passenger amenities were proposed in early 2019 for execution at the Train Halt Station like improvement to circulating area, approach road, improvement to façade of station building, extension of platform to 560 metres to accommodate the longest train, low cost platform, additional drinking water pedestals, bore-well for uninterrupted supply of water, and toilets at an estimated expenditure of Rs.1.3 Crores have been completed. She said the division has proposed to provide stoppage for another two trains on the section once the train services resume.

DRM thanked the General Manager Shri. A.K. Singh, under whose leadership and guidance the Division zealously pursued sanctioned works in this area, Mysuru division has facilitated 100 feet ring road in front of Shivamogga Railway station by demolishing 32 quarters. Garg requested for the intervention of Hon’ble MP Shivamogga in getting the funds from GoK for completion of other works in the constituency specially in Kumsi, Anandapuram and Sagara.

B.Y.Raghavendra, Member of Lok Sabha, Shivamogga on the occasion thanked Shri. Suresh Angadi for accepting to be a part of this historical event and inaugurating ’Museum Malgudi’ a new point in tourist itinerary in this region and lauded the efforts of Shri. A.K. Singh General Manager, SWR and Smt. Aparna Garg for their tremendous dedication and contribution for the development of Railways in this region. He thanked the Railways for restoring the old dilapidated Arasalu station building at a cost of Rs.25 lakhs. It has a popular sentiment of making of television serial ‘Malgudi Days’ associated with it. He said the people of Thirtahalli and Hosanagara are thankful for this as they now have a new landmark. The MP praised MoSR and Railway Minister Shri. Piyush Goyal for sanctioning various new development project to the region like coaching terminal depot, multiple new lines connecting different part of Karnataka and assured to get the funds released from Government of Karnataka for completion of the projects highlighted in the pink book on cost sharing basis and said acquisition of land for the new coaching terminal is in advanced stage and will be shortly made available to Railways. Further requested Railways should meanwhile proceed with tendering. He thanked GM and DRM for providing lifts at Shivamogga station and for facilitating the land in front of Shivamogga Railway Station for the Ring Road.

He appreciated the involvement of MP Shivamogga in getting the Railway projects cleared from GoK and said the contribution of State government is important in further completion of the projects.

The event was anchored by Priya Shetty, Divisional Commercial Manager and PRO of Mysuru division and concluded with ‘votes of thanks by A. Devasahayam, ADRM Mysuru.
