Indore: Municipal commissioner Asheesh Singh on Tuesday ordered departmental enquiry against city zoo in charge Uttam Yadav, days after Central Zoo Authority (CZA) instructed for initiating action against him for violation of Wide Life (Protection) Act-1972 and Recognition of Zoo Rules- 2009.

Additional municipal commissioner Rohan Saxena will conduct the departmental enquiry and submit the report to the municipal commissioner. Sources said that Yadav would first be served notice to put his side on the allegations levelled against him and then DE would be conducted against him. A complaint against Yadav was filed by Bhopalbased wildlife activist Ajay Dubey with CZA alleging that he was violating Wide Life (Protection) Act-1972 and Recognition of Zoo Rules-2009 with endangering lives of captive animals at city zoo.

It was alleged that Yadav allowed a pet dog and a journalist to play with a tiger in captivity, allowed visitors click photographs of captive animals and feed them, and stood close to a tiger devoid of any physical barrier. The complainant had provided photo evidence to substantiate his allegations. The CZA had found the allegations true and directed IMC commissioner initiate the disciplinary proceedings for major penalty against Yadav and apprised about the same to it within 30 days. Besides, the CZA had also issued notice to the commissioner on finding difference in annual report of the zoo and previously submitted documents.
