Monday night Raw was a shocking event for WWE fans as wrestler Roman Reigns revealed that he will be stepping away from the fighting ring as he is battling leukemia. Roman Reigns’ real name is Joe Anoa’I and he is one of the WWE’s biggest stars. The 33-year-old wrestler also relinquished his WWE Universal Championship title.
Roman informed his fans that he was earlier diagnosed with leukemia back in 2008 but as he quickly went into remission, he kept his wrestling career alive along with fighting the disease. But now, since the disease has started bothering Roman’s health, the wrester will officially take leave from wrestling.
“The reality is my name is Joe and I’ve been living with leukemia for 11 years and unfortunately it’s back. Because the leukemia is back, I can’t fulfill my role. I can’t be that fighting champion and I’m going to have to relinquish the universal championship. I’m not going to lie, I’ll take every prayer you can send my way but I’m not looking for sympathy, I’m not looking for you to feel bad for me because I have faith,” said Roman while addressing his fans during Monday night Raw.
However, Roman informed that Monday is not the final day for him in the wrestling ring, and he will return back after fighting leukemia. “Sometimes life throws you a curveball and the best thing for me to do is to go home and focus on my health. But I want to make one thing clear- By no means is this a retirement speech because after I’m done whipping leukemia’s ass, I’m coming back home. And when I do, it’s not going to be about titles and being on top, it’s about a purpose,” said Roman, who was joined by his shield brothers Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose joined him at the entrance ramp.
Roman Reigns aka Joe Anoa’I comes from the royal pro wrestling family of Samoan heritage. He is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Sika of the Wild Samoans and the brother of former WWE superstar Rosey, who died in 2017.
