Indore: Conveying a message through different facial expressions, Emoticons commonly known as emoji have made a special place in communication system around the world. World Emoji Day is observed on July 17. The day celebrates and talks about love for emojis.

Like every form of art, an emoji allows people to communicate without compulsion of knowing any language. Free Press talked to a cross section of residents to know about their favourite emoji.

Showing love with hearts

“I am different from other people who prefer emoji highlighting their mouth and eyes. I prefer symbol of love.  My favourite emoji is the one that shows connecting hearts. I have been blessed with a wonderful family and I always use it to show love to my wife, kids and parents. I feel all we need to be happy is love.”

Expressive, fun & economical

“It is said a picture is worth thousand words but when it comes to emoji I would say that an emoji is worth 2000 words! Emojis are fun. They are expressive and convey message most economically. A person who is not adept at words can also say a lot by using the right emoji at right place. Of course, one must also accept the fact that the wrong emoji can lead to disaster. One keeps getting to know about new emojis especially if one is in touch with youngsters.”

Giving thumbs up to life

“A thumbs up emoji gives me satisfaction that everything is all right. Most important of all – it is a sign of positive attitude. I think we all need those little thumbs up in life. A simple thumbs up boosts confidence in me and therefore I often send it to people. It is simple and sweet.”

Venting frustration without harshness

“I love the smiley that shows teeth with frustration. I can relate to it. I often feel that way while talking to people. Emoji is fun. I like the way emojis express our feelings in a funny way without hurting anyone. If I would tell someone, it is annoying then it would hurt them. An emoji tones down harshness and replaces it with cuteness.”

Always cool with goggles

“I like the emoji with goggles. It is cool and that’s how I always want to be. I am a fitness freak with never-ending affair with gym. So, I like emojis that depict it. However, I rarely get the opportunity to use them. Hence, I always show my cooler self with goggles. Emoji is fun and easy to use for communication in busy life.”
