Mumbai: Jain muni (priest) Vishrant Sagar opine that women have to safeguard their honour not only at their maternal home but also at their in-laws’ house. At the same time, women should ensure they are not influenced by western culture, they must study ancient scriptures.
The muni was speaking to the media in Sikar, where he reportedly made blasphemous comments. However, his remarks have now snowballed into a controversy. He did not stop there. He went on to say that women should keep quiet. He said women are being objectified. “Women are objects. And, 95 per cent of the times, women are responsible for the crimes they suffer,” said the muni. Sagar said there was a need to restrain women. “Women must stay within their limits.”
Another Jain Muni, Tarun Sagar, in May 2015 had made similar controversial statements against women. He had spoken against “love jihad”, saying, “At this rate, India is in danger of becoming another Pakistan.” After Sagar’s news hit the social media, there was a huge outrage against his controversial comments. One extremely agitated person questioned whether Sagar was really a muni.
@harshal_rjasked, “हा नक्कीच #मुनी आहे की #गंजेडी_बाबा… चप्पलेने चोपलं पाहिजे साल्याला.” (Is he really a muni or a baba with a chillum. He should be flogged with a chappal). Pratik P Surana, chief mentor and director at Quantum Training tweeted, “Ashamed of this idiot and his followers!!! Why should he be looked as a muni?
