Ujjain: In a shocking incident, a woman was trampled over by a dumper loaded with sand at Ravindra Nagar on Wednesday.

The accident occurred when the woman, Nirmala (43), was travelling with her husband, Balkrishna Patidar on a bike to attend the Mahakal ‘Shayan Arti’. The dumper apparently went out of control hitting the bike and consequently both husband and wife fell down while the dumper trampled the woman’s legs. The accident took place at about 11.30 pm. The driver fled the spot of the accident leaving the two helpless.

The woman who was trapped under the dumper was in agony for at least half-an-hour and lost consciousness, while her husband desperately sought help to release her from under the dumper. No help was available since it was late into the night and by the time people reached the spot to help the victim, she had already lost consciousness and was declared dead on being brought to the hospital.

On being informed Madhav Nagar Police registered the case under Section 304-A of the IPC,seized the dumper (MP13 JA-6025)and have begun a search for the driver.

Meanwhile, the incident evoked anger among residents of Nirman Nagar, Ravindra Nagar, AdharshVikaram Nagar, Sethi Nagar, etc. Local residents,VivekTaneja, Dilip Sharma, Sunil Bhatt, Deepak Shahpurkar, Vivek Pandey and others told Free Press that despite being a prime spot, no speed breakers had been constructed there.

They charged that encroachments have been rampant at the Ravindra Nagar Square to which the UMC had turned a blind eye.  Area corporator, Rajendra Vasishtha said a delegation would meet the SP and Municipal Commissioner in view of the demands of the residents.
