‘We believe tonality behind Love Guru’s voice is working well for us’

Mumbai: Radio City’s ‘Love Guru’ interact with FPJ’s Mamta Hatle about the show successfully completing 17 years, about his journey, some funny queries and memories.

How do you feel about Love Guru completing 17 years?

It is a great feeling. It seems like this beautiful journey with Radio City started just yesterday. The most fulfilling aspect about being Love Guru is that people appreciate the counselling we have been providing since many years and give us an opportunity to resolve their personal issues. When millions of people come to you for help on such a valuable aspect of their life, it is a beautiful feeling. We hope to keep contributing and shaping people’s lives for the better in the years to come.

Tell us about the journey. Funny queries, memories or behind the scene instances you would like to share?

The trust that people have shown in this show is what drives me. Those two hours behind the mic is the best part of the day. I correlate it with real love. Whenever I am in the studio, I feel complete and loved.

We handle all the calls with utmost seriousness given it is Radio City’s most popular show Love Guru, the go-to person for relationship advice. But there was a call I still remember and is very close to my heart. In 2015, we received a call from Akshay (name changed) who was on the verge of dying as he loved a girl from a different religion and the girl’s family went cruel. They locked her up in a room and Akshay received threats from the girl’s family who were against an inter religion relationship. We decided to act on this and a love campaign was launched around the issue, which involved authorities. Finally, after Radio City’s initiative, the issues between the families were resolved and the couple got married. Akshay and Zeenat (name changed) called me last year and informed me how they are happily married and now they have a third member in the family.

Why does the audience trust Love Guru and how have you managed to develop this faith?

We have received an overwhelming response from our listeners, for being calm, and a well-balanced personality. So we believe the tonality behind Love Guru’s voice is working well for us. In addition to that, I believe that the suggestions, ideas and tips that we provide are very genuine and practical. Being anonymous is also one of the key reasons for the popularity of the show, as people don’t come to me with the fear of being judged. Every listener has an image of this unseen person in their minds and they instantly connect with him.

Any message that you would want to give to your audience?

We have believed and observed that time has been the biggest issue in any relationship, and I genuinely feel that if you love someone you invest time in your relationship. There is no alternative to it. If your partner is not feeling loved and if there are frequent complaints, it’s a sign that you need to address the issue with utmost importance. Most of us tend to ignore this and that is when things take a turn for the worse in a relationship.

I have had callers complaining about how they are constantly questioned about their whereabouts by their significant others. Such trust issues are a sign that it is imperative to give space in a relationship. If you love a person, it’s important to trust them and give them space.
