Village accountant lands in ACB net in Thane while taking Rs 1 lakh bribe

Bhayandar: Yet another village accoutant in Thane district landed into the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) net after he was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to carry out official land related documentation work.

According to the Thane unit of the ACB , the complainant had approached the local revenue office in Sajja-Mire tehsil to make entries  of conversion tax into the 7/12 extracts of the records related to a land in the village.

However, the accused talathi identified as Baswaraj Gunjite (42), demanded Rs. 2 lakh from the complainant for carrying out the entries. The amount was later scaled down to Rs. 1 lakh. The aggrieved complainant,alerted the ACB’s Thane unit,following which a trap wad laid and Gunjite was caught  red handed while accepting the bribe amount on Tuesday. The accused  has  been booked under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
