Mumbai: On Saturday, Vikhroli police arrested an auto rickshaw driver in a robbery case.
In the temptation of stealing cash, the accused Satyanarayan Dattatray Gaikwad (37), an autorickshaw driver landed up with no cash in jail. The incident took place on Thursday night near Godrej creekside colony at Vikhroli(W).
According to Senior Police Inspector, Shridhar Hanchate, Vikhroli police station, “Gaikwad was in need of cash on Thursday night. He was on his way from Bandra Terminus to ferry the victim to his residence at Godrej creekside colony in Vikhroli (W).
On reaching a deserted spot at Vikhroli, Gaikwad threatened the victim to get off and abandoned him. He fled with a bag which he thought contained cash. However, the passenger was instead carrying some important documents in it.”
According to Hanchate, a team of detection officers from Vikhroli police station had visited Bandra Terminus from where we got the whereabouts and residence address of the accused.”
Gaikwad was picked up from Punjabi chawl near Janki garden from Nirmal Nagar in Khar (E). The registration number of the autorickshaw is MH03BA4629.
“A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered. The arrested accused has been booked under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code,” said Senior Police Inspector, Shridhar Hanchate,Vikhroli police station.”
