Mumbai: Reshma Khatu, daughter of late Vijay Khatu, has taken over all his idol sculpture business with the help of brother Nitesh after the death of her father. Reshma join the Khatu team and started working at the Parel workshop in Mumbai.
Khatu’s workshop is currently handling 115 Ganesh idol, which included 25 ft idol of Grant Road Ganesh mandal. Beside this, they are also making the Ganesh Galli and Chinchpokli Chintamani, which is almost ready, only painting work is left.
On Friday, the Ganesh idol is delivered to Baroda and another is sent to Kolhapur on July 30.
The deadline of making of Ganesha idol is August 13. On this Reshma, told Mid-Day, “We will complete the work on time, and idols will be delivered as my father had promised to the mandals.”
Reshma plans to continue the business and is open to taking up orders for the upcoming Navratri festival as well. “The majority of the work is done; even for the Ganesh Galli mandal, my father had already listed the requirements and issued instructions to the staff. The 30 to 40 per cent of work that is pending will be done on war footing. I will definitely not stop here; we will continue to accept orders and keep my father’s passion alive.”
Vijay Khatu’s passed away on July 23 , The condolence meet will be held tomorrow at Chinchpokli Chintamani Sarvajanik Mandal, Chinchpokli at around 7 pm.
