Indore: City doctors will commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas with a ‘Walk’ on Sunday. A large number of residents, doctors, social activists, NGOs, ex-army men, NCC cadets and athletes are expected to participate in the walk, organised to pay tributes to the Indian army martyrs of the dreaded war against Pakistani intruders in 1999 and convey respect to the armed forces.
The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days to end on July 26 (1999) after India successfully took command of the high outposts in the Kargil sector (J&K), which had been lost to elements of Pakistani armed forces. Kargil Vijay Diwas is thus celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the heroes of Kargil War.
Family members of martyr, Lt Gautam Jain and wife of martyr Lt Col Harsh Uday Singh Gaur will flag off the long walk, which will begin from Rajwada with patriotic tunes played by Border Security Force band and culminate back at the venue.
Dr Sandeep Julka said “We organise this walk every year with an aim to express gratitude towards our armed forces, because they ensure our safety. We also want to give a message to the people sympathising the death of terrorists.” The event will be jointly organised by Indian Medical Association, Indore and AnantAman Social Welfare Society.
