A decade ago Amitabh Bachchan owned 10-bigha land in a village near Lucknow to build a degree college in Aishwarya’s name. And even entire Bachchan family was present for the foundation ceremony, but after that not even single brick was laid on the ground. Looking at this villagers of Daulatpur resorted to crowd funding to build a degree college just 500 metres away from Amitabh Bachchan’s plot.

Now the students from the village will not have to travel 30 km to fulfill their dreams. Villagers pooled in Rs 60 lakh and constructed a building, which currently houses 12 classrooms.

More than 10,000 sq metre of land was donated by a village teacher’s father and by his brother for the campus. The man behind this success is Satyawan Shukla, 40year-old teacher of the village. The co-educational college has been christened Daultapur Degree College, affiliated to RML Avadh University, Faizabad, and will open with two courses —BA and BSc.
