Ujjain : Mayor Meena Jonwal along with members of the mayor-in-council, zone presidents, members of the water works committee and officials of Ujjain Municipal Corporation, paid obeisance at the temple of Bilkeshwar Mahadev near Gambhir dam, on Saturday as a mark of gratitude for the prevention of the imminent water crisis in the city.
Jonwal performed ‘abhishek’ at the temple and also requested citizens to use water prudently, to avoid water shortage in the future. She added that current arrangements of water supply would continue.
Ujjain has witnessed a very weak monsoon this season, resulting in the accumulation of just 300 Mc ft water in the Gambhir dam in the past15 days. However the recent heavy rainfall in the district and Indore, has helped raise dam levels to 1622 Mc ft and although it has not filled to its full capacity of 2250 Mc ft yet, the water could be enough for a year, if used wisely.
Mayor Meena Jonwal, health committee in charge Mangilal Kadhel, MIC members Satyanarayan Chouhan, Radheshyam Verma, Durga Choudhary, Rajshri Joshi and UMC officials held a ‘roko-toko- campaign in Bhukimata area railway track, Hrinmukteshwar area and Kartik fair ground to motivate slum dwellers to abstain from open defecation.
