UMC-citizens collaboration to rid city of open defecation

Ujjain : During a workshop conducted by Water Aid here on Sunday, Ujjain municipal corporation (UMC) officials and peoples’ representatives contemplated on the evil of open defecation and vowed to make the city free from open defecation with their collaborative efforts.

In-charge collector and UMC commissioner Avinash Lavania in his address said that it is not a difficult task to make the city free from garbage and open defecation considering the efficiency, UMC staff has shown in managing a massive inflow of 8.5 crore devotees during the recently concluded Simhastha Fair. Once they are mentally prepared to deal with the issue, they can make it easily, he added. Mayor Meena Jonwal in her address said, Water Aid has been putting their best efforts forward to support the cleanliness mission of the city. Leader of opposition Rajendra Vasishtha said that all the corporators want to see their city as a clean and beautiful place and are ready to extend full support in the endeavour.

Additional commissioner Ashish Singh urged the corporators to inform UMC about the condition of their wards and file proposals for projects aimed at making the wards open defecation free. UMC will take the concerns into cognisance to deal with them promptly, he assured.

The workshop was held at Hotel Anju Shree wherein trainer Ajay Sinha from Delhi deliberated on various cleanliness issues. Sinha highlighted several relevant points and gave a four-point strategy. He also expressed his valuable views on how to make a garbage free city.

Additional commissioner Vishal Singh Chouhan and deputy commissioner Yogendra Singh were present at the workshop.
