Ujjain: Some thieves on Wednesday fed some intoxicating substance to the driver and cleaner of a Lucknow-bound truck carrying onion and garlic worth Rs 7 lakh. The intoxicant was so intense that both fell senseless soon after consuming it.
According to information, driver Yavaran and cleaner Ashwin departed from Krishiupaj Chimanganj Mandi with onion and garlic. During the journey they gave lift to two persons for Shivpuri with some sacks of garlic, who offered the driver and cleaner some sweets as prasad (offering). Soon after consuming the same, the two fell unconscious while reaching a weighing machine. The staff at the weighing machine sent the driver and cleaner to the hospital even as the miscreants fled the spot.
The victims did not regain consciousness till Thursday. On being informed Chinmanganj Mandi police reached the hospital but the two were unable to record their statement.
Dr Jitendra Sharma said it would take at least 24 hours for the two victims to regain consciousness completely. According to the police, after their statement the matter would be clear and description of the miscreants could be had.
