Ujjain: Students of Government Kalidas girls’ postgraduate college locked the dilapidated college building located in Milkypura area, on Wednesday and staged a protest demanding shifting the college to its new building, as the building where the college is presently being run by the government, is in a precarious condition.
During the protest, the girls did not allow anyone from entering the college including the principal and other staffers. They also demanded calling the collector to the dilapidated building of the college to hand over a memorandum. Student leader Deeksha Sharma said the present building was very old and shaky and an accident could occur any time, but despite the situation, construction work of the new building was being done at snail’s pace.
The Government Kalidas girls’ post graduate college is one of the leading colleges of the division where over 1500 students are studying, but classes are currently being operated in a rental building since a long time without any maintenance, Sharma added. She also said the agitation would continue and classes would be boycotted till the shifting of the college to the new building.
According to principal Dr Mahesh Sharma, the construction of the new building of the college has almost been completed near the Ram-Janardan Temple and the contractor is now ready to hand over the building by August 15. He also agreed that the demands of the students are reasonable, and said he is in talks with the collector and the energy minister in this connection.
