Ujjain: A variety of events were organised by different organisations across the city to mark the World Environment Day on Tuesday.
Awareness rally held
Hundreds of morning walkers, environmentalists and social workers took part in an awareness rally on early Tuesday. The rally started from Kalidas Sanskrit Academy and reached Kothi Palace. The participants including a large number of girls and women carried placards. They also raised slogans for a polythene-free India. United Nation’s brand ambassador, Kavya Bhatnagar led the participants.
Roopantaran performs ‘Agnihotra’
Roopantaran along with Ujjainwale group members and Government Madhav Nagar School of Excellence’ Eco Club members performed the holy Agnihotra at the Kalidas Sanskrit Academy premises on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Convener Rajiv Pahwa informed that Agnihotra was basically a healing process. Its modus operandi is ‘Heal the atmosphere and the healed atmosphere will heal you’. Purification of the environment through the constituent electrons of the substances fumigated in the Yagya, is an obvious effect of this process.
This was done by burning sacred offerings of ghee and scented herbs in the sacred fire. Indian culture, since ancient times, witnessed an era when Agnihotra was performed in almost all villages and homes. It is said this sacred ceremony keeps the ozone layer safe and healthy. Indian culture and its traditions have been of scientific importance since then.
Dr Garg shares methods to conserve rain water
To mark the occasion of World Environment Day, a symposium was organised by BSNL at its Dewasgate located headquarters. Expressing views, Paryavaran organisation head Dr Vimal Kumar Garg shared various methods to conserve rain water. He insisted that rain harvesting mechanism can prove to be a boon for water conservation round theyear. General manager Pankaj Upadhyaya chaired the programme.
Plantation at Savyasachi Vidyapeeth
Guava trees were planted by the staff members of Savyasachi Vidyapeeth under the guidance of principal Saikat Chanda to make the school campus green and the environment healthy.
Mayor administers oath
Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) organised many programmes to mark World Environment Day on Tuesday. Two rallies were organised by Team Divine and Team Jwala under the guidance of mayor Meena Jonwal. Both the rallied started from different places, one rally began from Shri Mahakal Temple and ended at Ramghat and the other started from Sindhi Colony and ended at Rishi Nagar . The mayor administered the oath of safety and security of environment to the people. A workshop was also organised to maintain cleanliness in the city.
GDC students take oath
Likewise, students of Government Girls’ Postgraduate College also took oath under aegis of National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS). The oath was administered by principal Ulka Yadav.
Plantation at Bhargava Nagar
The sapling plantation programme was organised in LP Bhargava Nagar garden by Advance Association for Development. Social worker Satyanarayan Jaiswal, Zila panchayat vice-president Bharat Porwal, Om Jaiswal, Gabbar Kuval, Vikky Yadav and Prashant Jaiswal were present.
Plantation drive launched
A sapling plantation programme was also organised under the leadership of leader of opposition Rajendra Vashishtha under the aegis of Prabhat Mitra Mandal and Prabuddha Mitra Mandal in Shri Balodhyan. Senior social worker Ghanshyam Kewaliya was greeted. Shailendra Trivedi delivered the welcome speech and the programme was conducted by Kailash Vijayvergiya. Girishchandra Sharma expressed gratitude.
Cloth bags distributed
Navkar Seva Sansthan situated in Malipura distributed clothed bags and appealed to stop use of polythene bags. The chief guest of the programme Puja Talera, founder chairman Shweta Bhandari, Shweta Chopda, secretary Priya Nandecha, Sarita Ratnabora, Monika Chelawat, Kusum Jain Rashmi Gadiya and other members of the organisation were present.
Plantation at Lalpur
Bairwa Yuva Brigade also planted saplings to mark the day at government boys hostel in Lalpur. Superintendent Madhumati Sirolea, probation officer Mehtabsingh, Harish Lalawat and children were present.
‘Karmseva Dharm Seva’ organisation members planted 31 fruit bearing and dense saplings near Rinmukteshwar Mahadev Temple. Chairman Darshan Thakur informed that Congress leader Vivek Yadav was also present there during the sapling plantation.
Plant presented to collector
Students of Dhanwani Academy also planted around 200 saplings at Kothi Road, Balodhyan, residential houses and various academic organisations. Director Dilip Dhanwani informed that Kanchan Premchandnani, Arjit Parihar, Shweta Panjwani, Mayank Choure, Ankit Parmar, Anshul Sharma, Monika Sharma, Preksha Premchandnai and Deepanshu Nagpal took part in the sapling plantation campaign of the organisation. The students presented a plant to collector Manish Singh.
Likewise, on world environment day a cleanliness campaign was organised at Narsing Ghat by Aronya Adiwasi Seva Sansthan. Organisation secretary Vijyendra Singh Aronya said ‘Forests should be saved for better future and environmental balance’.
