Ujjain: Members of Jivadhikar group found a rare species of bird in wounded condition at Freeganj vegetable market on Friday.
The bird was taken to veterinary hospital at Lalpur where doctors upon examination, found that the bird belongs to a very rare and old species called Pond Heron (scientific name: Ardeola Grayii). Later, convener of the group Nilesh Sethi and Mihir Patel handed over the bird to forest department. This particular bird, popularly known as ‘Indian pond heron’ has been found mainly in Indian subcontinent and Iran. This rare species lives mainly on fish and water insects.
