Ujjain: An investigation by Madhya Pradesh directorate of health revealed massive irregularities in purchasing medicines during Simhastha festival by civil hospital administration.

According to information, the hospital administration purchased medicines worth whopping Rs 1.47 crore erratically during the mega event, out of which a large quantity were left unused and later, destroyed after their expiry, causing wastage of a lot of money.

A team of directorate of health services (Bhopal) comprised of deputy director of medicine cell, Dr Indrajeet Sikarwar, financial advisor Raju Saxena and deputy manager Himansu Tripathi investigated the matter and concluded that concerned authorities did not follow rules in purchasing medicines. Then civil surgeon DPS Gaharwal’s name also surfaced in the irregularities of purchasing medicines.

The probe authorities after scrutinising purchase related documents said medicines worth Rs 30 were only used and the remaining stocks were destroyed by the hospital management after the expiry of medicines. Adding more to the trouble for hospital administration, the team also reported that the authorities were careless even during incineration (destroying) of the medicines. The team will submit its probe report, which will be further examined in Bhopal and necessary action will be taken against the guilty.
