Ujjain: New rules for ‘abhishek’ in Mahakaleshwar temple

Ujjain: New rules to protect the ‘lingam’ from erosion were made in a meeting held by Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee (MTMC) administrator SS Rawat with temple priests on Thursday.

As per new rules, some restrictions have been put on the use of ‘panchamrit’ and ‘abhishek’. From now on, devotees will be barred from scrubbing ‘panchamrit’ on the lingam and can use only 1.25 litres of milk during ‘abhishek’. The administrator also appealed for the use of good quality materials in the ‘panchamrit’ and during ‘pujan’.

During heavy rush hours, devotees will be restricted from performing abhishek for approximately half an hour. Other significant suggestions were also given by Pradeep Guru, Ashish Guru, Sanjay Pujari, Raman Trivedi and Dinesh Pujari. Assistant administrators, Satish Vyas, Preeti Chouhan, assistant administrative officers Dilip Garud and SP Dixit were also present in the meeting.
