Ujjain: Marking the culmination of the one month-long Ramazan fasting, Muslims celebrated Eid-ul-fitr with religious fervour. Thousands of men and children clad in new clothes offered prayers in mosques across the city. The main Namaz was offered by 5000 devotees at Idgah, Shastri Nagar at 8:15 am in the presence of city Qazi Khaliq-ur-Rahman which was followed by exchange of Eid greetings. Qazi prayed for peace in the country and good monsoon, with resounding ‘Amen’ from community members. Other mosques were also packed as prayers were offered and sermons were held.
After prayers, Muslims visited the houses of relatives and friends to greet them. Traditional feasts were prepared in Muslim houses with an array of ethnic delicacies. ‘Seviyan’ and ‘feni’ were served and savoured with a wish of spreading sweetness in the life of loved ones. Young and old were seen embracing loved ones and spreading the message of brotherhood and harmony on Eid. The celebrations will continue throughout the week with ‘Eid-milan’.
Traders made brisk business during the festival. Caps, heena, perfumes, dry fruits, clothes and other gift items flooded the market as people indulged lavishly to celebrate the festival.
Special arrangements were by administration and Rapid Action Force was deployed at Idgah to avert any untoward incident. Over 50 police personnel were positioned along with ‘vajra’ vehicle at various points.
Collector Sanket Bhondve, SP MS Verma, ASP Rakesh Sahay and Vinayak Verma and CSP Malkeet Singh extended their greetings to City Qazi Khaliq-ur-Rahaman Muslim members on the occasion. Mayor Meena Jonwal and BJP workers also marked their presence at Idgah and extended Eid wishes to people. City head of Congress Anantnarayan Meena along with party members offered garland to city Qazi and extended wishes to the whole community.
Hindu-Muslim Yuva Manch joins celebrations
Hindu-Muslim Yuva Manch under the guidance of Nasir Belim distributed sweet drinks at the Idgah after community members offered Eid namaz. Taufiq Khan, Dilshan and others from Yuva Manch were present.
