Ujjain: Muslim women take to streets  against ‘triple talaq’ bill

Ujjain: Hundreds of Muslim women dressed in their traditional attire took to the streets and staged a rally to protest against the Central Government’s triple talaq bill on Thursday. This was the first such demonstration of its kind in the city participated by huge number of Muslim women.

In the rally, women held placards, banners and the Indian National flag. They said personal law (Islami shariyat kanoon) was their pride and triple talaq bill was against it. They further said Muslim women would never get respect by going against personal law. They demanded that the Government take back the bill.

The rally passed through the major Muslim areas of the city and concluded at Begum Baag road. A stage was set up there from where Muslim women, city Quazi Khalikurrerehman and other clerics addressed the rally.

This bill was the pride of BJP as well as Central government and such large scale protest against has given ministers an issue for worry. Banners supporting personal law and opposing the triple talaq bill were also put up in the Muslim areas of the city. These banners were put under the name of ‘Jamiatul Ullema Hind Unity Ujjain’.
