A gang of miscreants allegedly ran away with AK-47 rifle of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan at railway track near Barnagar on Wednesday night. Two RPF personnel were injured in the incident which took place near Badnagar, about 50 km from here, said Ujjain SP Sachin Atulkar. As per reports, the RPF jawans were on patrol duty along railway track at Barnagar.

They had been tasked to keep an eye on copper and aluminum wires lying on track side for ongoing electrification work. The cops saw 10 people loitering around about and asked them to stop. The miscreants tried to run away. However, the cops managed to nab one of them, identified as Bhagwansingh Tokara (35). As the patrol team started interrogating Tokara about his other accomplices, “The miscreants pelted stones at them, in which two jawans sustained minor injuries. In the melee, AK-47 rifle of one of them fell down.

It had 20 rounds loaded,” Atulkar said Talking to Free Press, ASP Pramod Sonkar said that SP Sachin Atulkar, ASP Antarsingh Kanes, and SDOP Shersingh Bhuriya inspected the crime scene. He said owing to gauge conversion and electrification work, the cops were tasked with protecting materials including copper wire, aluminum wire and iron.

According to police, miscreants were eying materials lying near the tracks. Sonkar said that miscreants injured head constable Rakesh Kushwaha and ASI Kamlesh Sharma. Later the injured cops informed control room. Police have registered an FIR and started probe and manhunt. The injured cops were rushed to Railway Hospital at Ratlam.
