Ujjain: Mahakaleshwar temple gears for Shravan festivities

Ujjain: With an eye on upcoming festivals and the month of Shravan which holds great significance for devotees of Lord Mahakal, the district administration has prohibited entry of vehicles in the temple zone from Saturday, as well as selling of meat at roads leading to the temple.

Collector Sanket Bhondve convened a meeting at the office Shri Mahakal Temple Management Committee (MTMC) administrator, to discuss preparations for the Nagpanchami festival , and ‘sawaris’ (processions) of Lord Mahakaleshwar to be held during the month of Shravan. During the meeting the collector also put a ban on use of DJs during ‘sawaris’. However, he allowed the traditional use of cannon.

Selling of non vegetarian items, chicken and meat will not be allowed on the road leading to Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple.

The collector also instructed officials to maintain rapport. He insisted on setting up of barricades, markings on dilapidated buildings falling in the route of the ‘sawaris’, deploying ambulances and maintenance of electricity lines. Residents in temple zone will be issued passes to provide them hassle free entry.
