Ujjain: Lord Nagchandreshwar holds sway over hearts of devotees on Nagpanchami

Ujjain: On the occasion of the festival of Nagpanchami, devotees thronged to the ancient Nagchandreshwar temple, in the premises of Shri Mahakaleshwar temple on Friday. The temple opens once in a year.

Over one lakh devotees paid their obeisance in the temple and performed worship with rituals. Long queues of devotees were seen on the road, to have a glimpse of Lord Nagchandreshwar.

The door of the temple opened late on Thursday night, and consequently, first worship was performed by Prakashpuri Maharaj of Panchayati Akhada Mahanirvani and MLA Mohan Yadav .

Collector Sanket Bhondve and commissioner BM Ojha were also present. Disregarding heavy rains, devotees continued to line up to get a glimpse of Lord Nagchandreshwar from the night of Thursday to Friday night.

1000 cops deployed for controlling mob

Expecting huge crowds, the administration deployed 1000 police personnel from Thursday night onward to control the mob. As compared to the previous year, more devotees visited the temple.

Mismanagement seen at night

Despite deployment of a huge police force, crowds could not be controlled at some places in the premises. Devotees began jostling and crowds suddenly increased on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday at 2 am. This led to several barricades falling down, bringing down devotees as well. The situation reached a stage where the collector had to appeal to crowds to have patience. SDM Narendra Suryavanshi also coordinated with security personnel to control crowds with ropes.

Officials and public representatives offer prayer

On Friday afternoon, under the guidance of Mahant Prakashpuri, energy minister Paras Jain, divisional commissioner MB Ojha, collector Sanket Bhonve, additional commissioner Ashok Kumar Bhargava, SP Sachin Atulkar, ADG V Madhukumar, DIG Ramansingh Sikarwar performed worship of Lord Nagchandreshwar, on behalf of the district administration on Nagpanchami.

Special entry for differently-abled and senior persons

The administration arranged special entries for differently abled and senior persons through the ‘shankh dwar’. The administration issued special passes to over 200 people for this purpose. Wheel chairs were also used by disabled people to have a glimpse of the Lord.

The administration claimed having provided appropriate arrangements on the festival of Nagpanchami. A huge police force was deployed to maintain law and order. All officials, collector Sanket Bhondve, SP Sachin Atulkar, CEO of smart city Avadhesh Sharma and municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar J were seen participating in efforts to provide ease to devotees.

Devotees welcomed at railway station

The administration welcomed devotees at the railway station by putting holy vermillion on their forehead.

Shravan Mahotsav at Dandarouadham

Dandarouadham Ashram and Ved Vidyalaya organised a Yagyopaveet and Sharavan Mahotsav on Nagpanchami. Over 1500 people participated in the ceremonies. Mahamandleshwar Ramdas Maharaj, Acharya Manish Maharaj, Vishnu Sharma, Rahul Sharma, Sandeep, Akhilesh and many devotees were present to attend the programme, which was followed by a feast.
