Ujjain: ‘Kanya sanskar shivir’ signifying the worth of Indian values and customs, held by the Jain community, began on Wednesday at Rishabdev-Chhaganiram Pedhi in Kharakuan on Wednesday.
The ‘shivir’ will last till May 6 and over 250 girls will participate in it, spokesperson Dr Paras Maru said. The shivir started with a lamp lighting ceremony before the portrait of Goddess Saraswati. Kalyanman Jain, Omprakash Jain, Harshvardhan Jain, Babulal Bijliwala, Prakash Nahar were present.
The Mangalacharan song was sung by Urmila Jain. A dance drama was also performed by girls of the community. Sadhvi Harshpriya, Shriji, Muktipriya and Madhupriya and Muktipriya preached of the devotees in a ceremonial programme and insisted on the importance of values and tradition in a cultured family.
Sadhvi Muktidarshna, Rijupriya, Arhampriya and Shivampriya were also present at the shivir. Dr Maru informed that girls coming from other cities would stay in the shivir where all the arrangements for lunch, dinner and snacks were made for them.
