Ujjain: The police arrested a racket of interstate thieves who committed a series of thefts in several shops at Freeganj. Giving more details during a press conference on Wednesday, SP Sachin Atulkar said, the accused Sachin Gouhar (32), a resident of Gwalior and Atul Goswami, a resident of Shivpuri, were arrested after strenuous efforts. The accused who are habitual criminals hired a flat at Vidyapati colony in the month of July.
According to the SP, the thieves set the target during the day time and committed the theft at night. On interrogation, the thieves owned up having committed four thefts under Madhav Nagar police station and another four under Neelganga police station. The accused also accepted having stolen goods from the shops under Nanakheda police station.
FIRs have already been registered against the two under Section 457 and 380 by the police at above-mentioned police stations. A car has also been stolen by the thieves from Chhindwara, which they used during committing thefts. The police recovered cash, clothes, TV sets, laptops, grocery items, a car and other goods from them.
The police stated that many cases have been registered against the accused at Nagpur, Gwalior, Bhopal, Indore and Shivpuri police stations.
