Ujjain: Ujjain branch of the department of post is organising a district-level philately exhibition at Kalidas Sanskrit Academy on February 11 and 12. The stamps that portray Indian culture, India’s advancement in science and technology, great leaders, artistic heritage of India, and the fauna of India will be displayed at the exhibition. The first stamp issued in Independent India will be the highlight of the philately exhibition. World’s rarest stamps will also be displayed by philatelists from across Ujjain district and also from Indore. Over 20 entries have been received for the exhibition.
Senior superintendent post of Malwa district KS Tomar on Thursday told a press conference at Press Club that special covers and first day covers issued by the department would also be showcased. Children can get personalised ‘my stamp’ containing 12 stamps printed with their image. Stamps issued on special occasions and other postal items like stamps on the theme of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and stamps exploring the life of king Vikramaditya will also be available for purchase.
To attract school students, a quiz competition will be conducted on February 11 from 4-5 pm. A test to examine the knowledge regarding philately will be organised for the students of Class 6 to 12. A stamp design competition will be conducted on February 12, from 10-11 am. For the students of Class 1 to 5, the theme will be environment and for Class 6 to 10 the theme will be cashless India. An essay writing competition will be held for the students of Class 5 to 8 in section A and Class 9 to 12 in section B on February 12.
