Ujjain: In tandem with the Indian Government’s attempt to promote handcrafted products in the country, particularly amongst the youth, the Government Girls Post-graduate College (GDC) organized an event on Monday. The Government has also declared August 7 as National Handloom Day to be celebrated every year.
In the event conducted in GDC, MLA Mohan Yadav was chief guest and special guest was Bhupendra Kachhway, board member of National Handloom Development Corporation. NCC students held a parade while other students presented patriotic songs and took part in a fashion show exhibiting handcrafted clothes like khadi and others. Artists from the song and drama division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presented a cultural programme.
A query solving session was also held for questions regarding handlooms and other handcrafted products. Artisans from Bhairavgrah batik print industry like Rahim Gutti, Ibrahim Badwala, Abdul Hannan, Hemlata Lariya and others were honoured. Kachhway in his address said the government was running many programmes for the betterment of handloom weavers and promoting handicrafts. Joint director of higher education department, Usha Shrivastava also addressed the event and threw light on the significance of handcrafted products in the independence movement.
Shubhangi Dave of department of music presented the song ‘zara yaad karo kurbani’ and Trishla Pathak recited the poem ‘khadi’ written by Dr Sohanlal Chaturvedi.
