Ujjain: On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, the officials of the department of post including Mayor and others wielded brooms on Sunday morning to encourage people to keep their city clean. Under Prime Minister Clean India campaign, the postal department launched various programmes on the day and conducted cleanliness awareness workshop at Mahakal Pravachan Hall.
A number of senior officials from the department of post including, chief postmaster Alok Sharma from Bhopal, general postmaster Rakesh Kumar from Indore, general manager Brijesh Kumar from Delhi, director Ramchandra Jaybhaye from Bhopal and around 150 workers along with Mayor Meena Jonwal were present at the workshop. Government of India, Department of Post, has selected 15 cities across the country and from Madhya Pradesh Ujjain has been selected for its programme. After Mayor and officials wielded the brooms and conducted symbolic cleaning, the workers of department of post went around sweeping the Mahakaleshwar temple area.
They began from main gate of the temple and then cleaned the complete area surrounding the temple. They also created awareness amongst visitors and shopkeepers for maintaining sanitation. Later, Mayor distributed letter of appreciation to the officials. Assistant administrator of Mahakal Temple Management Committee Preeti Chouhan was given dustbins and other equipment. A street play was also staged for spreading the message of sanitation by an Indore-based group. The event concluded with a vehicle rally flagged off by officials from Mahakaleshwar temple, while a human chain was formed at Tower Chowk for creating awareness about cleanliness. Meanwhile, Mayor along with her Ujjain Municipal Corporation’s colleagues conducted surprise inspection of state of cleanliness at Dussehra Maidan and Karthik Fair Ground following ‘Ravana-Dahan- event at both the venues, on Sunday morning.
UMC’s cleanliness rally today
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, UMC will take out a cleanliness aware rally from Harsiddhi temple on Monday at 3 pm. Public relations officer Nizami informed that the rally would be concluded at Tower Chowk where Mayor would administer the oath of cleanliness. Meanwhile, UMC commissioner Vijay Kumar J has issued orders addressing to all the workers and officials of UMC to arrive at the venue by 2 pm.
Mandi Committee to conduct cleanliness today
According to Chimanganj Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti president Bahadur Singh Bormundla, a massive cleanliness drive will be conducted on Monday from 9 am at the mandi premises to mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Mandi Samiti employees, traders, grain merchants, and loaders are expected to take part in the voluntary work.
