Ujjain: Dancers of 4 gharanas to perform at  3-day Maha Kathak Mahotsav-2018

Several noted artists of the country will perform during a three-day dance fest Maha Kathak Utsav 2018 being organised in the city from October 29 under the joint aegis of National Kathak Institute, Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, Government of India , culture department and Pratibha Sangeet Kala Sansthan.

Director of Kathak Kendra BB Chug and Pratibha Sangeet Kala Sansthan director Pratibha R Alchi said that this would be the greatest concert in history of Ujjain where all the four gharanas (Jaipur, Lucknow, Banaras and Raigrah) of Kathak dance will perform on stage of Maha Kathak Utsav.

Inauguration will be done at 6 pm on October 29 which will be followed by solo classical dance by Jyotica Joshi (Singapore). After her performance a group choreography named Ritushrangar will be performed by Dr Arti Singh from Raipur. Rujuta Singh from Pune will perform classical dance production Trushna and the evening will end by dance choreography director by elder son of Padma Vibhooshan Pt Birju Maharaj , Guru Jaykishan Maharaj featuring the students of Kathak Kendra named Panshakshar and Meghmalhar.

On second day of Mahakathak Utsav on October 30, Dr Tina Tambe from Mumbai will give a solo dance performance which will be followed by dance choreography by repertory artist Jaya Bhatt, Neelakshi Khandekar, Vishwadeep and Shipra named Parivardhan. It will be followed by group dance performance choreographed by dance maestro Pt Rajendra Gangani. The show will end with choreographic work of Nrity Shiromani Guru Jitendra Maharaj.

On final day on October 31, solo dance performance of V Anuradha Singh from Bhopal will organised which be followed by group performance by daughter of legendary artist Sitara Devi Kathak queen Jayantimala . After that the legendary Kathak artist Nandini Singh will give her performance along with her two disciples. The Utsav will end with the choreographic work of Nritya Guru Malti Shyam featuring the repertory artists of Kathak Kendra.

Pratibha Raghuvanshi said, this is the second year of Maha Kathak Utsav the festival is solely based on classical Kathak form from two years where the national, international artists from all over world come and give dance tribute to Baba Mahakal. Entry at the festival will be free of cost. Presentations will begin from 6.30 pm everyday at Pt Surya Narayan Vyas Sankul, Kalidas Sanskrit Academy.
