Ujjain: The Uma-Sanjhi festival organised every year for preserving and promotion of Malawi folk traditions will begin at the premises of Mahakaleshwar temple on Saturday. The festival will host a series of events including cultural programmes every evening for five days, various competitions, bhajan and kirtan among others. The festival will conclude with the procession of Uma-mata on Thursday.

Administrator of Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee (MTMC), Kshitij Sharma informed that on the inaugural day, Gagan Singh Bais will perform on the percussion, a yoga performance on Shiv mantra by Pankaj Sharma will be held and a Kathak performance by Swarnika Joshi will be rendered in the temple premises.

The next day, Sulbha Saraf will present bhajans and Meetali Verma, a performance of Kathak/folk dance. Likewise, performances of bhajan, dance and folk singing by various artists have been lined up for the following days. The cultural events will be held at 7:30 pm every day in the temple premises.

A drawing competition will be conducted in the Mahakal Pravachan Hall on Sunday at 3 pm. For children of 6-15 years of age, the theme will be ‘Bharat ke Mahapurush’ , while for children of age group 15-18 years, the theme will be ‘Swachh Bharat’. Other competitions will be ‘shlok’ recitation and rangoli creation. In addition to these events, bhajan and kirtan will be performed by Gwalior based Balkrishnanath Dholibua Maharaj, in the temple premises every day during the festival, at 5 pm.
