Ujjain: Cong demands CBI probe into LED light supply scam

Ujjain: The opposition Congress party in Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe into the supply of LED lights, alleging that a scam to the tune of at least Rs 3.50 crore could be unearthed.

Addressing a press conference, senior Congress corporator Maya Trivedi said the UMC authorities had connived with the HPL Electricals and Power Ltd, Delhi in the name of installing 11, 300 LED lights supposedly for the Simhastha Fair-2016 arrangements. “I waited for about a year and a half to get the documents on record, though the UMC officials tried their best to provide me misleading information,” she charged.

Releasing a bunch of documents pertaining to supply of LED lights, their installations and actual position in the field, Trivedi accused that about 2080 LEG lights were not installed on the poles, areas, localities and venues mentioned on such documents. Likewise, the supply was made at extremely high rates, as compared to actual market rates. Irregularities were also made by showing numbers of poles as 45, 000 when there were only 22, 000 poles, she added.
