Ujjain: Collector Manish Singh stepped forward on Wednesday to make the city encroachment free. He visited and marked several areas in the city illegally occupied by residents  supposed to be for public use. He ordered removal of such encroachments.

Officers informed that as the population of city was increasing, illegal occupation on Government land as well as road side encroachmentwas rapidly increasing. Pipalinaka area of the city topped the list of encroachment as several illegal colonies had been constructed around public places in a haphazard and unplanned way.

Apart from that, around a dozen of marriage areas had been constructed around Mangalnath Road and Ankpaat Marg without the Government permission. Besides this, several colonies like Mahavir Nagar, Gayatri Nagar, Vir Savarkar Nagar have been developed on Simhastha Fair land and around 7000 families were residing in these colonies, government officials told the media.

Officers said,as per the 1992 land demarcation map, the area between Ankpaat Marg to Jaat Dharmshala comes under government occupation and were supposed to be used for Simhastha purposes but permanent houses had been constructed on reserved land, they added.

It was a big challenge for the Government to remove such a vast encroachment as people had been residing in these houses for several years, he added. Residents of these colonies and owners of marriage garden are now in fear and face a dilemma over impending Government action.
