Ujjain: National Sports Day was celebrated with fervour at Mahananda sports arena on Wednesday in the presence of energy minister Paras Jain. National Sports Day is celebrated across the nation to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyanchand.
The programme commenced with paying tributes to legendary hockey player Dhyanchand. Later, addressing the gathering, minister Jain said it is the 121th birth anniversary of Major Dhyanchand and he took hockey to a new height. His era is considered as the golden period of Indian hockey as country won gold in almost every major international event.
Jain asked the members to provide significant space to exercise and sports in one’s life as it will enhance several personality traits like leadership quality, dedication and zeal to achieve target. The minister himself was a wrestler and participated in several wrestling competitions. He asked the players to pay full attention to improve their skills and government will provide full support and facilities to them.
Hockey players of the city were also honoured on the occasion. Saloni Suryavanshi, Muskan Meena, Deepak Baghela, Ravi Ajmavat, and Sandhya Golkunde were felicitated by Jain. District sports officer Rubena Dewan honoured the guests with memento. Dilip Bhargava, Tarun Raghuvanshi, Ritesh Lalwani, Shayam Parmar and several other citizens were present at the programme. Gopal Singh Gautam anchored the programme and Narendra Shrivastava proposed the vote of thanks.
The day was celebrated in another event at Hotel Ujjaini in which players who excelled in 63rd national school sports competition were honoured. Gymnastic player and Judge MG Supekar was the chief guest of the programme. Public education division’s assistant director Sanjay Goyal informed that international power lifting player and district sports officer Rubika Diwan along with MG Supekar honoured the players. 65 players were honoured in the programme. Sports officers, teachers and players of all the seven districts of Ujjain division were present at the programme. Sanjay Johari conducted the programme and Sunil Pitre proposed the vote of thanks.
Similarly, Ujjain Hockey Association and Jal Sports Club also celebrated the sports day by organising programme ‘Aa khele Jara’ at Jal School ground on Wednesday. Corporator Rajshree Joshi, Rajendra Joshi, Arvind Joshi were present as guests in the programme. Emerging hockey players of the city were felicitated by the guests on the occasion.
Likewise, Alok International School organised a torch rally and felicitated around 100 emerging players of the city during a programme. Institution director Alok Vashishtha, Colonel Rajesh Dhaiya, Colonel Shekhwat, Ashok Jagdale, district sports officer Rubika Diwan were present and honoured the players during programme.
