Ujjain: City Congress members, under its acting president Vivek Yadav, protested and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Collector Manish Singh demanding expansion of the Mahakal procession route, better bhasmaarti arrangements for devotees and transparency in the temple entry system amongst others.
Yadav levelled allegations against the Mahakal temple administration and said several devotees come to city to visit Mahakal bhasmaarti everyday and had to face great difficulty in the process. They had to wait in serpentine queues from midnight on the roads despite weather conditionsand yet the government had made no arrangements for them . This despite thefact that several rooms and hall remained vacant and useless under the temple administration. They can use these halls as a waiting room especially for bhasmaarti purpose, he said.
Apart from that they raised a demand for the extension of the Mahakalsawari route up to Biyabani chouraha via Teliwada, Kalidas College. They also asked for the expansion of the procession route as these routes were densely populated and very congested, posing a risk of major accidents.
They warned that mass agitations would happen if the Government would not take immediate action to address the temple mismanagement issue. City Congress president Mahesh Soni, Acting president Ravi Bhadauriya, block president Ajit Singh Thakur, and other members were present during the protest.
