Ujjain: Anil Madhav Dave—a true son of Ujjain, will remain etched in memory and the glorious annals of the city’s history for years to come. Dave, the man who discharged his duties towards the land, family and society throughout his life. An Ujjainite at heart, but nothing could beat his zeal to serve nation and that is just what he did, right from 1989, up to his last day and breath on May 18, 2017.

“Anil was a multi faceted character. Politically inclined and motivated, on the one hand, a  trait he inherited from my father, and spiritually inclined, on the other, following the footsteps of my brother Madhav,” recalls Sadhana Upadhyaya, a 78-year-old aunt (Bua), who settled in the city’s Ravindra Nagar after serving at the school education department. Anil’s grandfather Badrilal Dave, commonly known as Dada Sahab, was founder president of the Jan Sangh’s Madhya Pradesh unit, and had also worked as Prant Sanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Interacting with Free Press, Sadhana Upadhyaya recalled that Anil’s ‘mundan’ was solemnised at the time of her marriage in Barnagar. “In 1989, Anil informed us of his decision to remain a bachelor, although he took over the responsibility of getting his younger brother and three sisters married. He took care of all the family members, but decided against devoting much time to us after becoming a Union minister, as he did not wanted to oblige us in such a capacity, which would be against his principles,” she added.  With none to carry forward his political legacy in the family, a huge vacuum has been created. Such was his enigma, that the void will be hard to fill. Yet, Anil Dave will live on in the hearts of Ujjainites, in the hearts of our countrymen.
