Ujjain: Assistant engineer (AE) Piyush Bhargava, who was shunted out from the UMC board meeting on Monday, on the charges of corruption, has been highly appreciated suddenly by the mayor Meena Jonwal, her MiC members and commissioner Vijay Kumar J, during an inspection of various construction sites on Tuesday, raising several eyebrows.

Bhargava had to face an awkward situation on Monday, as serious allegations were leveled against him by BJP corporators, as well as the opposition. There are several ongoing Lok Ayukta probes against Bhargava and he is presently under transfer. Such developments prompted speaker Sonu Gehlot to ask Bhargava to immediately leave the House. Gehlot had also directed the commissioner to soon take away key assignments from the errant AE. There were rumours doing the rounds since then that the AE may be suspended immediately.

But, situation changed in toto, on Tuesday as Bhargava accompanied the mayor, commissioner and MiC members during an inspection of projects under his supervision, for which he had to face charges of massive corruption and huge irregularities.

The UMC authorities visited Ratnakhedi where construction of a ‘gaushala’ at the cost of Rs one crore on about 53 ‘bigha’ government land is in progress. According to a release, the authorities expressed satisfaction on the progress of the work and specially admired Bhargava for his ‘efficiency’.

The authorities also visited Premchhaya Parisar and Ram Ghat where road and public toilet construction, beautification, etc, are being carried out under the same AE who has been in the line of fire for long. Here again, they made no adverse comments against the quality of work or delay. Some MiC members, who were vocal against Bhargava on Monday, remained conspicuous by their absence on Tuesday.
